Smooth bulbous jug painted with a blue underglaze “Bird and Rock” pattern.

Bird and Rock is a cobalt underglaze decoration based on stylised Chinese floral and avian patterns which spread throughout Germany and later Bohemia from Meissen, where the pattern was used from the 1730s. The everlasting flower pattern and the blue onion pattern derived from it have similar origin stories.
